Experience

Mercy For Animals, Director of communications

January 2018 - Present

My Role: I oversee an international team of nine staffers in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, and Hong Kong who work on PR, social media, writing, editing, and influencer relations.

PR Results: I've placed stories on plant-based eating and animal protection in dozens of mainstream media outlets, including The Associated Press, The Washington Post, National Geographic, The Globe and Mail, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Politico, The Vancouver Sun, and The Daily Mail. I also act as a primary spokesperson for the organization and have given dozens of interviews on farmed animal protection, clean meat, and plant-based foods.

Video: I collaborate with our video team to make our content go further. I’ve placed our videos with leading social media publishers, including NowThis, Upworthy, Seeker, LiveKindly, Little Things, Al Jazeera, and Zinc, totaling an additional 24 million views.

Editing: I’ve had the fortune of editing fantastic op-eds, articles, and listicles by Mercy For Animals staff writers, which have appeared in VICE, Vox, Lifehacker, GOOD, PopSugar, and more.

mercy for animals, public relations manager

June 2017 - January 2018

As Mercy For Animals’ public relations manager, I oversaw our PR efforts for the U.S. and Canada, and assisted on PR efforts in Mexico and Brazil. To learn more about my demonstrated history of garnering mainstream media coverage for farmed animals and plant-based food technology, please refer to my Publications and Director of Communications sections.

The humane society of the u.s., public policy Outreach manager

September 2013 - May 2017

I worked to defeat ag-gag legislation across the U.S. and advocated for state laws banning the extreme confinement of farmed animals. I specialized in grassroots organizing, coalition-building, media relations, and lobbying.

In this role, I also helped lead the Yes on 3 ballot measure campaign in Massachusetts, which passed by a landslide in 2016 and at the time was the world’s strongest farmed animal protection law. On the campaign, I oversaw a team of 3-8 staff and created and executed the strategy to collect 40 percent more signatures than required without hiring a political firm, something no other Massachusetts ballot campaign achieved in the campaign cycle. This saved the campaign an estimated $270,000.

the humane society of the u.s., food policy coordinator

June 2012 - September 2013

I worked with Midwest and New England food service directors at hospitals, colleges, and K-12 school districts to implement Meatless Monday programs. Highlights include working with Harvard University and Fresh Picks Café, a 100-school foodservice company.

-

Mercy for animals, senior campaign coordinator

July 2010 - May 2012

I led vegan outreach in Chicago (at the time, Mercy For Animals’ headquarter city), ran the national intern program, and managed a team of five conducting vegan outreach in major cities across the country.
